WORD is for all high school students that belong to St. Benedict the Abbot Parish and their friends. It is the church's apostolic mission to reach out to the teens so that they may reach out to others. Based on the words of Jesus and the truths of the Church, we seek to be the salt of the earth as we prefer nothing to Christ.
WORD is starting up again on Sunday, September 19.
Help with Freshman Welcome

We need a few teens to help serve lunch to the confirmation candidates and their parents. It's a good way to get service hours and invite the freshman to youth group at the same time.
Adults Needed to Help the Youth Group
We have amazing teens at St. Benedicts and we need some amazing adults to walk with them on their spiritual journey, whether being one on one or behind the scenes. Do you love teens? Be a core member. Do you like to serve? Chaperone a service project. Do you like organizing? Help with fundraisers. Do you like to cook? Plan a youth group meal. Most importantly, pray for our teens and the success of this upcoming year. There is something everyone can do to make a positive impact in the faith of our future Church. Some of the events/activities where we need help are:
- Day of Service at Interfaith Hospitality House - September 11
- WORD Nights - Sundays, September 19 – October 24 – Provide meals and/or snacks for youth group nights.
- Chili Dinner/Cook-off - Sunday, October 23
Parents Make Sure You’re Connected
Information for our high school youth group is being sent out via e-mail. Please make sure you send in your e-mail address to get on the mailing list. This includes activities and schedules, parent volunteer opportunities, and feedback needed on upcoming events. Please send your e-mail to .
Youth Ministry Survey
If you haven't taken the youth group survey yet, please do so. It is going to be used to help determine upcoming events, activities and service projects.
There are surveys for both teens and parents, so make sure you get your folks to help. Go to our Survey Page to find the links. Please spread the word. The more results, the better the feedback.
Leadership Team
The Youth Group Leadership Team is forming for 2010-2011. This year all high school students are invited to apply for the team, regardless of grade. So what does it take to be on the team? Opinions and ideas on how things should be done, a knack for leadership and a desire to motivate others in their faith, the ability to think outside of the status quo, people who aren't afraid of responsibilities and challenges. What do you get for being on the team? Leadership training, a say in youth ministry events, and a great resume item. There are 12 spots open (those on it last year need to let me know if they want to stay on.) Call me if you're interested or know someone who fits the bill. I'll meet with those interested before the decisions are made. Minimum of 1 monthly meeting. For more information call Janet at 724.941587.
